Leapin for Leap Year!

Hiya! How have ya'll been? I am super great! I am loving my current long term assignment in first grade at Skaith Elementary. It is a Leader in Me School which is based on Stephen Covey's 7 Habits for Highly effective people. I absolutely love it! I wish my kids were within the boundaries for Skaith simply because I love the Leader In Me Concept so much! More about that another time though today I want to share with you activities for LEAP DAY! We started studying Leap Day, yesterday so we are ready for Monday! First we read about Leap Day and answered comprehension questions from my Leapin For Leap Day Pack.
Then we filled in a calendar and figured out what day of the week fell on this year.

Then I had an early finisher try out one of the writing prompts for work on Writing next week. They are to write what they would like to do with a Whole Extra Day! This is one of two writing prompts. There is also a In 4 Years I will...

Another early finisher tried out the Leap Year Making Words which will be in Word Work next week.

Monday we are going to do the special Leap Year Song on Go Noodle! And an activity that tracks all the years that are leap! I hope this gives you some ideas for Monday! Have a great weekend!

Oh and check my store Monday for a lil surprise sale!

Things I {Love} for Word Work

I have loved the #2gether we are better linkies since I discovered them last summer on Angie Olson's Lucky Little Learners blog... I just always forget to DO them! So this month I'm on it! Sorta.
This month's theme is things I love so I am going to share some things I love for Word Work! I love all things ELA and word work is one of my favorites. There are so many fun ways to practice words!
Red and Blue Letter Magnets - I love these to reinforce vowels and consonants! The idea that every word has to have a vowel! Click the picture to purchase on Amazon (affiliate link)
Letter stamps! My kindergarteners LOVED stamping their sight words! These can be used with any word list and are so much fun! Be sure to use washable ink! You can also use different  colors and have them focus on different skills! Blends, digraphs vowels the possibilities are endless! Click the picture below to purchase on Amazon (affiliate link).
Letter tiles! These can be used with any word list! Students build the words and they can be used over and over again!  To purchase click the picture below. (affiliate link)
I just got these foam Letter Dice and I can't wait to use them! There are so many possibilities and they are all so fun! Click the link below to purchase  from Amazon (affiliate link)
For a simple low prep activity students can toss the dice and then make words with the letters that land face up.

I love that all of these are super fun, engaging activities that are relatively inexpensive and can be used with pretty much any word list with little to no prep. I hope you found some new products to make your word work more fun! Do yo have any of these? How do you use them?

February Currently 2016

Hiya! Is it really already February? I'm still trying to get used to 2016! And February always has so much in it, so you know it's going to go super duper fast! I start one of two back to back long term 1st grade (Yay!) subbing positions sometime this month so I am enjoying my last few days of freedom. I am linking up today with my favorite (and only consistent blog post) Farley's Currently. Join in HERE.

Listening to rain! Last week everyone started talking about this BIG snowstorm that was supposed to hit today, but the closer it got the smaller the amount and the warmer the temperature was going to be, until we ended up here, with rain and the Groundhog not seeing his shadow!

Loving that the congregational dinner is over. My small group at church put on this huge Star Wars themed annual dinner (A Chewbacca taco bar) for the entire congregation complete with a crazy skit and zumba this past Sunday and it was consuming all my brain space and time! But it was amazing and it's over!

Thinking I need to get lots done today, see aforementioned dinner that has been taking up all my time and note the upcoming long-term position and I am running out of I'll do it laters!

Wanting COFFEE always! Especially today though. If you follow me on Instagram you know I did my Instagram currently around 4 am cause I couldn't sleep so today my coffee needs coffee!

Needing to get to work on digging goals - did you catch Kelli.Alaina's video on Goal Digging? It was amazing! So amazing I bought her goal digging Fun book! Check it out by clicking HERE.

Swooning over Boom Chicka Pop Caramel and Cheese Popcorn! It is sooooooo good! Get ya some!

So that's it for me for February Currently! Enjoy this crazy busy fast moving month!
